MUSAHAR – the word itself paints a grim picture of poor, dark-skinned, malnourished people in the minds of Nepalese. We’ve grown accustomed to the hardships faced by the Musahar community as their situation remains unchanged, as if being born a “Musahar” is a curse.
In the isolated corners of Nepal, the Musahar community has endured a life marked by discrimination, social exclusion, and economic hardship. Their homes, made of mud, lacked proper doors and windows, and the absence of sanitation facilities contributed to a challenging life. Bonded labor and exploitation were harsh realities, as they faced limited access to education, healthcare, and basic services.

While affirmative action programs and reservations in educational and government institutions aimed to uplift them, the road to equality remained challenging. The Musahar community’s plight persisted, urging the need for concerted efforts to break the shackles of discrimination.
Warming Hearts Nepal has embarked on a journey to bring about positive change. Focused on providing school meals at Shree Pramod Memorial School of Siraha, we found a potent tool for transformation, one meal at a time. The introduction of school meals became a ray of hope, not only to attract kids to school but to give them the necessary nutrition for a better future.
In the last year, our group has worked hard to meet the unique needs of the Musahar community. We took a personalized approach to measure the impact of our school meal program. Every six months, we carefully measured the heights and weights of the students. This meticulous record-keeping allowed us to track progress, creating a tangible link between nutrition and growth.

The results have been promising, with improvements in children’s growth, enhanced nutritional accessibility, and better overall health. The simple act of providing a daily meal has not only nourished bodies but also ignited a spark of hope in the hearts of Musahar children.
As we celebrate the milestones achieved, we acknowledge that the journey is far from over. The Musahar community still grapples with challenges, and our commitment to their welfare remains steadfast. We invite you to join hands with us, to be part of a story that transcends borders and transforms lives.
