Both parents of childhood cancer patients and hospital professionals frequently prioritize worries regarding treatment medications, protocols, and financial burdens, occasionally neglecting the crucial element of nutrition in the child’s well-being.

On March 4, 2021, Warming Hearts Nepal continued its tradition of addressing this oversight. Continuing its “Nutrition Baskets” program at Kanti Children’s Hospital Oncology department, the organization provided vital nutritional support to children battling blood cancer and other life-threatening conditions.
The “Nutrition Baskets” program refers to an initiative where essential food items and nutritional supplements are provided to individuals in need, particularly those undergoing medical treatment or facing health challenges such as childhood cancer. These baskets contain items such as fruits, vegetables, protein-rich foods, vitamins, and minerals, aimed at supporting the nutritional needs of the recipients. The program seeks to ensure that individuals facing health-related challenges have access to adequate nutrition, which is crucial for their well-being and recovery.
In addition to nutritional assistance, Warming Hearts Nepal organized various activities and events to uplift the spirits of young cancer patients. Through art therapy sessions, music programs, and interactive workshops, the organization provided opportunities for creative expression and social interaction, offering a much-needed reprieve from the rigors of treatment.
These initiatives not only enriched the lives of the children but also strengthened the bonds within their families and the broader community. Moreover, we have been actively advocating for the appointment of a professional nutritionist within the pediatric ward of Kanti Hospital. This would ensure ongoing monitoring and regulation of the nutritional status of patients, enhancing the quality of care provided to them.
