Warming Hearts Nepal

One of our dearest and bravest recipients, Anish, brightened the hospital with his smile for the last time on June 5, 2024. 3-years-old at the time of diagnosis, he battled with Retinoblastoma in Kanti Children’s Hospital. When we first met him to extend our hand to assist his treatment, he was lying in his bed looking curiously at the catheter inserted in his palm.

He bravely completed several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. He walked along with the doctors, hand in hand, in every step of the treatment. However, his immuno-deficient body suffered from multiple infections and couldn’t cope with the heavy burden of the treatment.

Many children like Anish face a heartbreaking reality. They begin their cancer treatment very late as their families struggle with a lack of knowledge about the disease. Early symptoms often go unnoticed, significantly reducing their chances of survival.

Anish’s bravery inspired us to fight alongside him at Kanti, but the cancer had advanced very quickly. This story highlights a critical need: educating families about childhood cancer and its signs. Early detection is crucial to give children like Anish a fighting chance.
