JAJARKOT

Their delight upon seeing the simple, newly-built temporary classrooms made from fragile wood and tin roofs, made us realize that it’s not the bricks or expansive blackboards that define a classroom, but rather, it is the books and the infectious enthusiasm of students eager to embrace the joy of learning.

We built a temporary school at Nalghad-7 as a short-term replacement for Shree Janabikash Aadharbhut Vidyalaya School which was destroyed by the earthquake. We imagined several children, sitting once more in a classroom, surrounded by books and papers, eagerly anticipating learning and leaving their fears behind.

With no means of learning and other distractions, the children of Jajarkot were silent and downhearted, and in their minds, there was a constant, fearful anticipation of another earthquake. Similarly, many of the children didn’t know what earthquakes were and were unaware of what to do after it occurred. “We should run, and run, and run”, one of the children had said with a forced smile.

This unawareness and ambiguity towards earthquakes further added to their nervousness and fear as they stood on the ground which could start trembling at any time.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, our post-earthquake relief campaign in Jajarkot prioritized the construction of schools. As permanent schools are being built, the children will not only have access to academic education but will also learn about the nature and causes of earthquakes. Most importantly, they will be educated about the necessary measures to survive earthquakes.

The people of Jajarkot are facing an unprecedented crisis and we must come together as a global community to offer our support and assistance. Contact Warming Hearts Nepal if you’d like to support us and make a difference in their lives.
